School of Construction Technology
The School of Construction Technology provides a comprehensive high school experience with a concentration on careers in the construction industry. Students gain exposure to the varied construction specialties throughout grades 9 and 10. In their junior year, students choose a focused area of study. Students are offered a wide array of academic options that include college preparatory, honors, and concurrent college/ high school classes. In addition, students may participate in an extensive range of extracurricular opportunities such as athletics, clubs, competitions, and organizations that center on their career theme. - Students in the School of Construction Technology spend two hours of the school day concentrating on their career theme.
- Students will learn the critical areas of construction technology including carpentry, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, welding, and building maintenance. In their junior year, students will choose an area of construction technology as their career theme concentration.
- GCIT students successfully compete in local, state, and national vocational student competitions. In fact, our students earned the most gold medals in the state SkillsUSA competition.
- The School of Construction Technology has an Advisory Committee made up of experts in the construction field. These experienced professionals help us to keep programs abreast of industry trends.
- In addition to their teaching certifications, our dedicated staff in the School of Construction Technology are experienced professionals in the construction technology field.
- GCIT has formed partnerships with labor unions and businesses in this area who lend expert guidance, and afford employment opportunities to our students.
- Each year, students in the School of Construction Technology build a house for
- Habitat for Humanity where they not only gain real‐world construction experience, they also contribute to our Gloucester County community.
- Construction Technology offers students a bright future. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that a skilled journey person earned nearly 174% more than a high school dropout ‐ over 100% more than a high school graduate and 59% more than an associate degree holder.
GCIT students meet all the State of New Jersey Core Curriculum requirements for high school graduation and additionally have the opportunity for a school-to-careers experience in their senior year.
