Each school receiving funds under Title I, Part A of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) must develop a written school-parent compact jointly with parents for all children participating in Title I, Part A activities, services, and programs.  That compact is part of the school’s written parental involvement policy developed by the school and parents under section 1118(b) of the ESSA.  The compact must outline how parents, the entire school staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership to help children achieve the State’s high standards.

The Gloucester County Institute of Technology (GCIT) and the parents of the students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title I, Part A of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) (participating children), agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high standards.

This school-parent compact is in effect during school year 2025-26.

1. Provide high-quality curriculum and instructions in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the State’s student academic achievement standards as follows:

POLICY 2230 – Curriculum Guides (M)

GCIT will oversee development of curriculum guides for every course and area of study for every grade level.  Each guide shall contain objectives for concepts and skills to be taught and attitudes to be developed; suggested materials and activities designed to achieve all of these; and methods of evaluation and assessment used to determine which learning objectives have been met.  Curriculum guides shall include all requirements of the New Jersey Student Learning Standards.

Teachers shall use the guides as the core of their instructional planning.  It shall be the responsibility of the Building Principal to ensure that curriculum guides are being followed.

A copy of each guide in use shall be kept on file in the school office. Such guides shall be available for public inspection.

Because curriculum guides are the means of implementing instruction in courses adopted by the Board as the curriculum of the district, the Board shall approve any new curriculum guides or any revision to an existing guide before they are put into effect.

2. Hold parent-teacher conferences during which this compact will be discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement.  Specifically, those conferences will be held:

GCIT will hold two evening “meet the teachers” events a year. They are scheduled at the beginning of each semester.

3. Provide parents with frequent reports on their children’s progress. Specifically, the school will provide reports as follows:

The system of reporting pupil progress shall include written reports, electronic communication, pupil-teacher conferences, and parent/guardian-teacher conferences, whenever possible.

Reports of pupil progress will:

• Use various methods of reporting;
• Ensure that both pupil and parent/guardian receive ample warning of a pending grade of “failure” or one that would adversely affect the pupil’s status;
• Specify the issuance of report cards at intervals of not less than four times during the school year and issuance of deficiency notices as required during the school year; and
• Ensure the continual review and improvement of methods of reporting pupil progress to parents/guardians and involve pupils, staff and parents/guardians in that review.

4. Provide parents reasonable access to staff. Specifically, staff will be available for consultation with parents as follows:

Teachers are available throughout the day via email and voicemail to discuss issues and concerns. Conferences and meetings may also be scheduled by contacting the principal’s office.

5. Provide parents opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s class, and to observe classroom activities, as follows:

Visitation to any GCIT program is by appointment only. Appointments will be made by calling the Principal or designee. The Principal reserves the right to refuse a request for visitation if, in his/her opinion, the visit would be disruptive to the educational process.  The sign in/out (visitor pass) procedure shall be adhered to for all visitations.

All visitors shall be required to sign in at the reception desk upon entering the building. A “visitor” is anyone other than a GCIT pupil or a staff member. Visitors may not consult with the teaching staff or pupils during class time without the Principal’s permission.

All visitors to the school must obey regulations prohibiting smoking and any other regulations designed to ensure orderly operation of the school.  All persons violating this policy shall be considered “disorderly persons” and subject to appropriate action.

• Be responsible for my learning.
• Complete assignments and ask for help when needed.
• Commit to reading beyond the school day.
• Be respectful of staff and students.
• Actively participate in class.
• Seek help and assistance from staff.
• Take ownership of my learning.
